Anpetu Was’te – Good Day in the Lakota language. This month’s Lakota word is Wiwayang Wacipi which means Sundance in our Lakota language.  I chose this word because at the beginning of the Summer Solstice in June our people begin to partake in the Sundance ceremony.  Therefore, I thought it only to appropriate to choose this word to share with you all, as I am an avid Sundance person.  Sundance in particular, is one of our most difficult ceremonies to participate in, but to me is one of the most rewarding.
Here on campus we are beginning the second round of summer school and then following that we will be preparing for our graduation that is August 24.  So for us here at Sinte, July and August are very busy months and I am looking forward to our new Student Union to host the graduation meal that follows our graduation.  This will be a big event and I actually cook for it.  So, I am looking forward to the planning and preparation of this meal.
So, stay tuned and look for my August blog.  Actually, my September blog will have more details of our SGU upcoming graduation and other events as it is the last week in August that these event occur.
I want to remind as I always do, go to our web site and check out the current events, news and upcoming events and you can also go to the you tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/sintegleskautube/featured .
And, as I stated above please remember that you can also check our SGU Foundation Giving Page http://www.sgufoundation.org/ and remember that we also have our own Facebook page and my blog.
See you next month and please remember to watch for Sinte Gleska Updates and News on our Website.
Wopila Tanka!
(A big thank you)

     What Our Donors Are Saying

“We had a wonderful time there visiting the facilities, visiting the students, visiting the teachers. And it’s very exciting because this year they were able to, through our fundraising, shore up the idea of bilingual education, so they have these little ones learning Lakota and English simultaneously. This seems to be a very central piece to the spirit of the tribe, that the numbers of fluent Lakota speakers have dwindled, which is not a good feeling for the spirit and psyche of the Lakota. So bringing in this very youngest generation and being able to educate them in a bilingual environment is a very hopeful and very progressive thing to do.”
