Anpetu Was’te– good morning in the Lakota language. This month’s Lakota word Tiospaye- the English definition is extended family.  I chose this word because, as I hope that all of you readers or followers know that to me - you are my extended family.   Even though we may not be blood related, as a Lakota Winyan, (woman), I believe you ALL are my family.
The spring session has been in full force and students are actually preparing, I imagine, for Sinte to be wrapping up soon.  The weather has been beautiful, after a rough and turbulent winter, however, we are expected to have a snow storm this week.  Presumably, that is the last of the snow storms until next winter.
In conclusion, I want to remind all readers to visit our web page and be sure and tell your friends and family to check us out on past events, current events and schedules for up-coming events.  https://www.youtube.com/user/sintegleskautube/featured.
Also, remember to check out the SGU Foundation Giving Page http://www.sgufoundation.org/and don’t forget that we also have our own Facebook page and my blog.
See you next month and please remember to watch for Sinte Gleska Updates and News on our Website.

Kathy Boyd’s Blog
Anpetu Was’te – good morning in the Lakota language. This month’s Lakota word is Ptanyetu - the definition is fall or autumn.  As I said in last month’s blog, summer is almost over and fall is around the corner.  I look forward to the fall and personally, it is my favorite time of the year.
Well, we just celebrated our 46th Graduation commencement and it was great.  We also celebrated our SGU 35th Annual GED commencement.  This year we had a total of 69 graduates, which consisted of 5 Masters, 16 B.A.’s, 41 A.A.’s, 9 – 1 year certificates and 14 GED certificates.  It was awesome to see so many graduates.  I am already looking forward to next year’s commencements.
Along with our graduation, it was also our Rosebud Sioux Tribe’s 142nd annual fair celebration.  So, our people and people in our surrounding communities had a lot of fun and exciting things to attend after our big graduation.
The campus is back in session as our fall/winter classes have begun.  The campus is hopping and it so great to be able to be a part of the Sinte Gleska University family.  We try very hard to help each and every student in the college endeavors.
I wanted to remind all of our readers that the Graduation commencement was live-streamed and you view it on website.  Also remember that stay tuned on our website for live streaming, classes offered, and do not forget we host the Northern Plains Indian Art Market.  The Art Market will be begin September 27, 2018.  Go to www.NPIAM.org for more information.
Reminder:  Go to our web site and check out the current events, news and upcoming events and you can also go to the you tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/sintegleskautube/featured .

Anpetu Was’te – Good Day in the Lakota language. This month’s Lakota word is Wiwayang Wacipi which means Sundance in our Lakota language.  I chose this word because at the beginning of the Summer Solstice in June our people begin to partake in the Sundance ceremony.  Therefore, I thought it only to appropriate to choose this word to share with you all, as I am an avid Sundance person.  Sundance in particular, is one of our most difficult ceremonies to participate in, but to me is one of the most rewarding.
Here on campus we are beginning the second round of summer school and then following that we will be preparing for our graduation that is August 24.  So for us here at Sinte, July and August are very busy months and I am looking forward to our new Student Union to host the graduation meal that follows our graduation.  This will be a big event and I actually cook for it.  So, I am looking forward to the planning and preparation of this meal.
So, stay tuned and look for my August blog.  Actually, my September blog will have more details of our SGU upcoming graduation and other events as it is the last week in August that these event occur.
I want to remind as I always do, go to our web site and check out the current events, news and upcoming events and you can also go to the you tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/sintegleskautube/featured .

Anpetu Was’te – good morning in the Lakota language. This month’s Lakota word is I’sta which means eye in our Lakota language.  I chose this word because last week we hosted - Native Eyes Project, June 4-9th where over 1,300 people were screened during the free eye clinics conducted at our Multipurpose Building. The sponsoring organization, Artists for World Peace, announced that this effort will continue for the next three years.  This was one of the most remarkable events that has happened here on the Rosebud for some time.  Please go our website for some of the live streaming that was done throughout this event.
Along with this great event, we here at Sinte have started the summer session classes and we are eagerly awaiting the move in of our spectacular new Mike Benge Student Union.  The actual completion of the building is done, but we are still doing some installation of the kitchen and finalizing the ordering of our furnishings.  So, if you feel obliged to help us in any way in our endeavor, please, go to the Giving page on our SGU website.
I want to remind as I always do, go to our web site and check out the current events, news and upcoming events and you can also

Anpetu Was’te – good morning in the Lakota language. This month’s Lakota word is Wakinyan which means thunder in our Lakota language.  I chose this word because it is spring.  There are two very important ceremonies that the Lakota practice in the latter part of March and the first of April.  The Rosebud Sioux Tribe does a special ceremony every spring solstice welcoming back the Thunders.  It is a ceremony that is done in the Black Hills (which a very spiritual place for the Lakota).  Sinte Gleska University also does a ceremony in the Black Hills in early April and it is an annual wiping of the tears Ceremony for all of creation and is held at Pe Sla in the Black Hills.  This year it will be held on Saturday, April 7th, 2018.  This ceremony is held to wipe our tears of loss and prepare all of creation to welcome new life.  We provide transportation for our students to attend and it is also a very special ceremony to my people.
Spring is in the air, but unfortunately we are still experiencing some snow storms, I hope it passes soon so that our students will be able to breathe the brisk spring air and experience more outside time.  I think it will help them to better prepare for finals that are soon approaching

Anpetu Was’te – good morning in the Lakota language. This month’s Lakota word is Osiceca which means bad weather in our Lakota language.  I chose this word because the last time I did my blog I chose osni which is really cold, so it has been extremely cold and the weather has been bad.  We did not have work for two (2) days this month already and several snow days in February.  I cannot wait until spring.
Students will begin to prepare for mid-terms soon, spring break is next week and before you know it, finals.  It seems like this spring semester is going by so quickly.  Some other news is that we will begin transitioning for the use of Michael Benge Student Union.  It is right next to the SGU Administration building where I work and it is so nice.  Our students will have a study area, new cafeteria and just a place to hang out.
Remember you can always go to our web site and check out the current events, news and upcoming events and you can also go to the youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/sintegleskautube/featured .

Anpetu Was’te – good morning in the Lakota language. This month’s Lakota word is Osni which means cold in our Lakota language.  I chose this word because I cannot believe how severely cold it has been here on the Rosebud Indian Reservation.  And, not only is it cold here but it has been cold everywhere.  I hope you all have stayed warm and are in good health.
Last time I wrote you all we were scrambling here at SGU getting ready for the holiday season, well thank goodness that has come and gone and we are back in session (classes).  However, we just celebrated our 48th Annual Founder’s Week Celebration and the month of January was extremely busy getting prepared for this event.  This year was really special as we did a special honoring (Uonihan) for our President Dr. Lionel R. Bordeaux.  President Bordeaux has been Sinte Gleska University’s President for 45 years.  You can go to the youtube channel HERE and view his honoring as well as our forums, crowning of Miss Sinte, the Pow Wow and many other Founder’s week activities.
As always, a reminder that you can also check our SGU Foundation Giving Page http://www.sgufoundation.org/ and remember that we also have our own Facebook page and my blog.

     What Our Donors Are Saying

“We had a wonderful time there visiting the facilities, visiting the students, visiting the teachers. And it’s very exciting because this year they were able to, through our fundraising, shore up the idea of bilingual education, so they have these little ones learning Lakota and English simultaneously. This seems to be a very central piece to the spirit of the tribe, that the numbers of fluent Lakota speakers have dwindled, which is not a good feeling for the spirit and psyche of the Lakota. So bringing in this very youngest generation and being able to educate them in a bilingual environment is a very hopeful and very progressive thing to do.”
